The Other Way play ecological soul-jazz that illuminates the human spirit in its connectedness with nature. a healthy slice of improvisation, and birdsong as part of the instrumentation.
Featuring the vocals of Elly Hopkins (Hopkins and Oliver) and Billie Bottle, and the trumpet of composer Rowan Porteous, the music synthesises jazz and soul influences like Wayne Shorter and Robert Glasper, with a slice of electronica in the disembodied birdsong. It uses the deep grooves of Emma Holbrook (drums) and Guillaume Ottaviani (bass) to support the songs which tell stories of possible human futures against the background of ecological upheaval.
The Other Way album, 'Learning to Be' will be released in the Spring.
"Compelling progressive soul jazz that matches memorable tunes to hip playing - a band to watch out for.”
Mike Flynn, Editor, Jazzwise
"This music is so much bigger than jazz and the paired back beat, singers and singing trumpet make it unique."
