DOUBLE HEADLINER NIGHT

Wielding the distinct voices of fiddle, concertina and double bass, the Grace Smith Trio brings together three like-minded musicians to create one dynamic and expressive musical dialogue.

Acclaimed fiddle and viola player Grace Smith is joined by Sam Partridge (Concertina, Electric Guitar) and Bevan Morris (Double Bass) in this innovative ensemble, which offers a fresh take on folk. The trio are all well-known faces on the scene, with Grace spending the last ten years playing with the likes of the Monster Ceilidh Band, Katie Doherty and the Navigators and Cri du Canard, whilst Sam and Bevan are both members of Pons Aelius (among others!) and all three are experienced music educators.

The Grace Smith Trio’s much-anticipated debut album, Overleaf, will be released in September 2023. The album marks a significant milestone for the band, both musically and personally, as they head into their thirties and begin a new decade of music-making. Drawing deeply from tradition, whilst also expanding their repertoire with new melodies of their own, the trio explore the boundaries of what folk can be. Bellows, bow and bass come together to mesmerising effect, with spellbinding interweaving melodies that will stay with you long after you finish listening.

Join us on the launch tour to be among the first to hear these stunning arrangements played live for the first time.

Also performing is Archie Churchill-Moss, who is widely regarded as one of the best players of English Traditional Folk. He has worked as a session musician for some of the UK’s top folk acts (Cara Dillon, Eliza Carthy, Blair Dunlop, Jim Moray) and producers (Andy Bell, Ed Harcourt), as well as performing with the trio, ‘Moore, Moss, Rutter’ – the outfit which saw him receive the coveted BBC Radio 2 Young Folk Award in 2011.The past two years have seen Archie tour extensively across Western Europe and perform at some of Europe’s top music festivals, including headline slots at ‘Colours of Ostrava (Czech Republic), Tønde Festival (Denmark), Cropredy Convention (uk) and Cambridge Folk Festival (uk). With a contemporary approach to composition and arrangement Archie has developed a style of playing that draws as much influence from the tradition as it does modern popular music. he is currently seen to perform with: ‘Tom Moore & Archie Moss’, ‘Sam Kelly & The Lost Boys’ and ‘False Lights’.”
